106 Years of Excellence · 7 Years in Galle
The GMA Heritage Collection
The story behind the collection
Traditional gold jewellery in Sri Lanka, brought together to mark a milestone. Nearly 100 pieces that carry the stories, craftsmanship and cultural significance of generations past.
Jewellery preferences have changed significantly over time. In earlier generations, gold jewellery was often heavier, more intricate and more elaborate — today, most customers prefer lighter, everyday pieces. Rather than melting down the designs that fell out of fashion, we brought approximately 100 pieces together to preserve their visibility and let customers appreciate the craftsmanship behind them.
More than a jewellery launch, the Heritage Collection is an invitation to rediscover traditional artistry, celebrate our journey in Galle, and experience how jewellery has evolved across generations.

Sri Lankan Modern jewellery vs Traditional jewellery
Traditional
Created with substantial amounts of gold, resulting in heavier pieces with bold detailing — especially popular for weddings, family celebrations and significant milestones.
Modern
Places greater emphasis on lighter weights, simpler styling and everyday versatility. Neither approach is better — they reflect changing lifestyles and preferences.
A Legacy Worth Preserving
The collection will also be shown at other branches in the coming months, potentially including Ambalangoda and Maharagama.
- 100+ pieces preserved from being melted down
- Passed through four generations of craftsmen
- Handcrafted, never mass-produced
- Made exclusively in 22K gold
A Century of Craftsmanship, Rediscovered
Many older designs require detailed handcrafting that cannot be reproduced through standardised machine production — shaping individual components, creating intricate patterns, and carefully assembling each element by hand.
- Hand-hammered, without machine casting
- Each piece can take days of meticulous work
- Techniques passed down since 1920
- No two heritage pieces are ever identical
Sri Lankan Modern jewellery vs Traditional jewellery
The Pol Mal Malaya
The Pol Mal Malaya is a traditional Sri Lankan gold necklace design associated with the coconut flower motif. Known for its distinctive structure and elaborate appearance, pieces of this kind can require substantial quantities of gold and detailed handwork.
The Siribo Malaya
The Siribo Mala is particularly demanding to produce because of its detailed handmade work, unsuited to mass production. Its craftsmanship, gold content and labour contribute to a cost best appreciated beyond monetary value.
Where & When to View
